Days in the dorm

Cheyenne's family group enjoying an elevator ride. The top row is Hee Jin, Martha, Esther, Sofie. Middle row is Ane, Kayla, Haein, and Rachel. Kelly and Amanda are on the bottom.

Marit doing some housework in the laundry room.

Siril, Silje, Eileen and Hanne visiting the City Bakery.

Lynnie is making a gift in the dorms. It was so cute!

Kara is our dorm bookworm. Here she shows off all the books that she read that week!

One dorm pastime is to head to coffee cabin and take advantage of the higher-than-Hillcrest speed internet. Marit, Marta, and Adelheid.

Our student Nicole showing off her new jumpsuit.

I came in to see Kamilla and Sonia snuggled up like this one afternoon. Don't they look like twins?

Senior Tea

Here are all of our senior girls. Aren't there a lot of them? We spent the evening at Mable Murphy's and had desert and coffee.

Syttende Mai

Syttende Mai is Norwegian for the seventeenth of May. On the seventeenth of May, Norway separated from Sweden to become it's own country. The day is celebrated as a national day. In Fergus Falls, our Norwegians completed the day with parade, songs, boller, brun ost and bunad.

Hanne here is wearing a bunad. It is the traditional garment of Norway. Bunads vary in their appearance according to where the Norwegians are from.

Kamilla waving the big flag before the parade.

Catie and Danielle (RA).

Here are the Danielsen School students.

Our little parade walked down Union Street. It just so happens that May 17 is also "Armed Forces Day" in the US and the town was celebrating by putting up thousands of (american) flags around town. A little bit of irony!

Fall Festival

On Halloween, student council hosted a Fall Festival. There were many ninjas and pirates. Some of the boys wore matching body length pajamas. The students played limbo and sang some karaoke.

Nicole is a peppermint. Awwwww. She won first place for the individual costume.

Kaylee and Ane are dressed as Melkesjokolade (that's a delicious Norwegian chocolate bar).

Marit dressed as McGuyver and disarmed all dangerous devices at the Festival. Nice chest hair, Marit.

Maggie and Kirsten are our staple burger dressings. I asked them why they were making those faces and they said "because they were being squeezed." HA.

GEEKS!!! Martha and Adelheid.

Sneaky sneaks. Or detectives. Amanda and Katherine.

Spice Girls world tour stopped at HLA. Ingrid, Silje, Maren, Disa, Sophie.

Jailbreak! Kamilla, Sonia and Helene.

Carving Pumpkins

Veronica and Hailey had a hard time getting through a thick pumpkin with a dull blade.

Sofie is starting to cut the lid.

Helene and Marit cutting out the lid.

One of the funniest parts of carving was removing the pumpkin guts. The girls squealed and grimaced in shock.

Curiosity overtook Marit and some of the other norskies and they tried some of the pumpkin scraps. She said they tasted "like vegetable."

Hailey and Helene.

This is Hailey and Helene's first ever pumpkin carving! Didn't they do a good job?!

Helene, Kara and Veronica.

Cup Stacking Tourney

One Sunday in October the girls dorm held a cup stacking tournament. We had a lot of participants and some close competition. Left to right, Disa, Kristen, SooJin, Micah, Martha and Suzie.

Suzie, Martha, Zeke, Soo Jin, Kayla and Diane.

Soo Jin and Martha competing against one another to advance. Soo Jin was the tournament champion.

Kristen broke her personal record with a score around 16 seconds (?). Disa and Kristen during competition.
